2014 Build a Baby/Create a Baby workshop, Portland, Oregon

What a wonderful and fun time I had guiding two adult ladies and two young ladies in assembling their own manufactured, pre-painted Create a Baby kit at the Portland, Oregon Crossroads Doll and Teddy Bear show.

I taught the ladies my basic technique for balancing and weighting reborn dolls and they all fell in love with their 16 inch babies!

My two adult gals, Kathy and Karissa:

My two child gals (Megan and Jena) and one of my best friends, Becky.
These girls are my and Becky's granddaughters  :)

The workshop was on the show room floor so it was fun having people stop by to watch.
It was pretty quiet at this moment that I took this picture.

Miss Megan, Becky's granddaughter, hard at work:

Megan is getting pretty excited!

A look of accomplishment and excitement as her doll is almost born  :)

 Oh dear, very dark picture!

 As is my silly Jena!

Megan's baby is a boy, Jena's is a girl.

 Doubly, doubly cute!

 Such darling little dolls!
Awe, we had such a wonderful time!!!

This was Megan and Jena's first doll shows.
We grandma's had a BLAST with them!
They both made several purchases and we loved watching them play and love on their new dolls and stuffies.

I'll show you more about that later.

For now, I am pleased to have had a very successful and FUN workshop!

She made the wrong RIGHT! :)

After yesterday's post regarding Reborn Dolls by Renee,
I called Renee.

We had a lovely chat about using other people's photo's to promote your work and about the doll market in general.  Really, it was a very nice talk  :)

I do think that in some ways she sincerely didn't realize how what she was doing looked to other people.

Since our talk, she has removed EVERY picture that does not belong to her, and she is excited about the idea of posting links to the company whom sells a kit that she would be interested in reborning.

I am so very proud of her!

Way to go Renee!

WRONG! (UPDATED!)

~UPDATE~
Since this post, Renee has removed every photo that does not belong to her.
~SEE THE FULL STORY HERE~

***************

I came across a Facebook post of a doll that was for sale.  I knew right off that the doll pictured that was
"on sale" that day for $169 was not the doll that was for sale, so I went inquiring.

On this person's page, I found many pictures of other artists dolls with NO clarification that the doll in the picture was not the doll they would get.

The pictures were actually screenshots or pictures of pictures on a computer screen.

And some were used for her timeline pictures, which is REALLY wrong!

The person in question

did add to the pictures that she did not do the dolls in the pictures after I contacted her, but she is still very misleading in dealing with customer inquiries.

She has blocked me from commenting or messaging her page, but she posts her phone number so I will be calling her today because she has some of my pictures on her page now.

This behavior is WRONG!

There are ways that you can use other artist pictures and not be misleading to customers but she is not doing that.

These are the ways  that are most appropriate:

#1.  Reborn the sculpt and show the pictures of the doll that YOU reborned.

#2.  Add a link to the company that makes the kit so that the customer can see the blank kit and how other artists have interpreted it through the prototypes.

#3.  As a last resort, ASK to use other people's photos before you do and clearly state that the doll will be different than what is viewed in the photos.

You might want to take a look at her page to check for your pictures being used without permission.

Keeping it pure....

Taking them to their first doll show

Do you all remember my now 11 year old granddaughter, Jena?

She has always loved the dolls and has more knowledge of them than many adults.

Well, I am taking her to her first doll show this weekend!

I am GIDDY EXCITED for her as I remember my first doll show and how excited I was....
And I was an adult!

My friend is also joining us and she will be bringing her 7 year old granddaughter to the HER first doll show too!

So it will be a Granny and Grandgirl dolly weekend for us and I could be more happy!

Of course, I'll post pictures next week  :)

Congratulations Little Chicks!!!!

It is a happy day when an artists' work is shown appreciation through a good sale.

That happened yesterday in an amazing sale for Little Chicks Reborns with the adoption of prototype Quinlynn, by Laura Lee Eagles.

Congratulations Hollman Holliis!

We were all cheering for you!

New live class title: Make the Switch to Air Dry Paints

I was invited to teach at a new doll show and conference that will be held
in Denver, Colorado in July of 2015.

This new show is called the ROSE show and class registrations are available for purchase now.

The show administration asked that I focus my class on teaching the person who has painted dolls before (using Genesis paints) but desired to change over to Air Dry Paints.

Hence the new focus and passion for live classes starting in the fall of 2014 and continuing as long as needed.

There are so many misinterpreted misgivings regarding air dry paints and they seem to have magnified here lately as more people consider the risks of baking vinyl verses using air dry paints.

My classes will be intense not only with the TRUE information regarding air dry paints (remember, I have been using them since 2008) but also in in-depth, hands on skill as I teach my techniques for creating a multidimensional LIVE skin tone using them.

I am very excited about the revamped class opportunities as well as having a large convention and doll show on MY side of the Rockies!

I will be keeping you updated on the upcoming shows.

Sharing my collection Friday~Let it SNOWMAN!

I love when I get packages in the mail!

I got this precious hand-knitted snowman set the other day, all the way from Denmark.

Brittany was still in her Christmas outfit waiting for this to arrive.
And since we are in the middle of a winter storm and winter is not going to be leaving soon,
I felt it was okay to put it on her and allow her to charm us for several more weeks  :)

Her tootsies are extra warm in the darling boots!
Oh what fun!

Ps...I love snow and snowmen  :)
