Let's talk about rooting

I have been rooting doll heads now for over 9 years.

Seems like it should just go without flaw after all that time, right?

WRONG!

I began rooting the Noah custom order head last week.
I have had awesome success on my last 5 or so dolls using the 42g PINK needle that came from Germany.  I even used it on silicone dolls with no problem.

So, I began rooting Noah with the same pink needle.
Break.

Heat the head more.

Break.

Heat the head even more.

Break.

ARG!

So then began the search through the zillions of needles that I have and many different textures of a similar color of mohair that I wanted to use.

DOUBLE ARG!

I simply could not find the proper match of needle to mohair to vinyl!!

That was last week.  I was ready to throw the doll across the room!

After a break over the weekend, I felt a bit more confident facing the dreaded BIG head.

And I did find a needle and mohair combination that worked with this particular head and vinyl.

Whew.

So what I am saying is that there is no ONE SOLUTION or combination that works for each and every doll.  They are all unique, just as we are, and you just have to go through the work, and sometimes frustration, until you find the right match.

I do not have a science for it.

I do not have a solution for it.

One just has to go through it and find the answer.

And once you do, the feeling of accomplishment is wonderful!

Off to root a head now.

Sharing my Collection Friday! What's hoppening in the nursery??

Spring fever!
And adorable bunnies are starting to appear...

I have been changing babies this last week in my free time.
27 completely changed, 2 accessorized and just a few more to go to complete this change over.

I am leaving the girls crib mostly as it is for now until I am inspired at to a theme for them.
(I don't have enough bunny items to go around and they are all happy in their mostly pink attire.)

I love my dolls.

TNGUN dolls are guaranteed :)

The warranty on my dolls is pretty simple.
If something goes wrong within the workmanship of my dolls, I will do whatever I can to fix it.
(If something should go wrong with silicone or vinyl, I will do what I can that is in my power to fix that also but I cannot guarantee a sure fix.  In this field, there are things that can go wrong that were never expected.)

In 2011, I painted a couple of dolls using blush colors from the same mixed pots, changing each one just a little bit.

The dolls that were painted with these blush colors had lost their blush over time.

I do not blame the paints nor am I concerned that the paints "fade" which is a big scare for people regarding air dry paints.  These paints have proven to be steadfast to me, except for these few times.

It certainly was artist error in how I mixed the paints.  I suspect I had too much water, diluting the pigment too much.  Which also would have diluted the medium so that the medium could not do it's work.

I have not had the problem before these dolls, or since.

This is the most recent one that needed re-blushed.  She is on her way back home to her mommy as of today.

Re-meet Bess!

Bess is the "Dimples" sculpt by Melissa Palesse.
I LOVE this sculpt and have one in my own collection  :)

This customer also had a silicone doll that she bought a long time ago (not from me) that needed a repair.

His zip tie was on so tight around his neck that the tie cut into the flange of his neck till it was more than halfway through!

I bought a special and expensive product and am happy to report that his repair was successful!
I did not take any pictures of him.

This time, his head will be attached on with much less pressure on the zip tie.

Have a glorious Thursday!

Wrist, neck and back pain~a SOLUTION!

For many years now I have used products from Nikken, a Far Infared and Magenetics technology company.

I have used wrist wraps, bracelets, back wraps and a necklace until I have worn them out.
So, I went shopping amongst the newest products and I feel I just HAVE to share them with my fellow reborn artists because I know that I am not unique or alone in my discomfort when it comes to making dolls.

I am happy to report that the new line of sport bracelets and necklaces are less expensive than the gold plated ones were in the past and work SO WELL!   Seriously!

Here is the link to the seller that I bought from on eBay.
I am not promoting this seller  and I have NO interest in the company as a benefit to me, these products just work and this was a great seller to deal with:

I purchased the 6" Power Band wrist in purple  :)  One for each wrist.
The 6" just fits my wrists.

And I purchased the Power Band necklace~in purple  :)   It is a "one size fits all".

Friends, if you suffer from neck, wrist and back pain, these products work as well as any drug, without side effects.

I swear by them and have for years.  I have tried the "magnets" that you can get at the drug/department store as they are less money, but they do NOT work, so it is a pure waste of money.

For $96 for all three items, I am pain free even after 7+ hours of rooting.

A serious investment in your comfort  :)

Hugs!

Took a day off

Earlier in the week, my husband suggested that I take Thursday off so that we can go to the city to tend to some vision and medical device issues and shop.

Right now, we are like the rest of the world, working 5 8-hour days a week and trying to cram everything that we have to do into the two days that we take off.

Since we are taking riding lessons on Friday's and for some strange reason this house still needs cleaned, laundry done etc, it makes our two days really exhausting for me.

Even though it's hard for me to take any time off as I feel so far behind already, I will admit that having three days off was good for me.

Shopping all day on Thursday, horse training AND a quick house cleaning, began laundry and a night out with our adult kids on Friday left me with an open day yesterday (well, after I finished the laundry).  I COULD have worked...and I did a teeny bit by listing a little mohair and sending out two orders of it but I decided it would be healthy for me to play.

Oh, I guess I also "worked" by getting the dolls ready that I am taking to the luncheon where I am giving a short presentation on Thursday but then I changed 20 of my own dolls plus accessorized two others.

That was fun and I have a new view when I walk into the nursery  :)

So now, I am ready to get busy doing some SERIOUS rooting this week!

Hugs!
