Back from Hood to Coast~Speedy Turtles ROCK!

The 2010 Hood to Coast~The MOTHER of all relays~began at 6:30 am on Friday August 27th, 2010 at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood Oregon.

The Speedy Turtles lived in these two rigs for 33 hours....

"Turtle Shell 1"

"Turtle Shell 2"

The team consisted of 12 runners (3 who were family members) and 4 drivers (2 who were family members)

They ran 197 miles between them.

They ran in the day...

They ran in the night...

They ran on pavement, dirt roads and wooded trails...

They slept whenever they could just by laying a bag out in the weeds...

And finally, they made it to the finish line in Seaside Oregon. Some of the team broke their training times and each one of them finished the race. I am SO proud of them!

Twelve members of true grit. They just completed an unbelievable journey together.

My dear husband and a few of his team mates: Jade, Leslie and Melissa.

My hat is tipped to these twelve amazing people and their 4 drivers. INCREDIBLE!
Thanks for an awesome adventure!

(I have posted about 75 pictures on my facebook page if you want to see more!)

He had hair...and now he doesn't!

Now you see it....

Now you don't....

We took a LOT of great pictures of the process. You can see them on my Facebook page~what a great sport he is! He even wore a pink cover!

We are Hood to Coast bound today. Obviously I won't be blogging. Wish our team luck...as well as the other 999 teams. Oh yes, let's talk numbers. There are 1000 teams of 12 members each~12,000 runners. Each team has 2 vans and 2 drivers per van~that is 2000 vans and 4000 drivers. There are between 3000-5000 volunteers plus the Hood to Coast "staff" which must be almost as many. And then there are the cheer misters. How many of them we may never know. Cool beans. I am excited!
Have a GREAT weekend!

In other news.....

Fawn is finished~at least her artwork is finished. Her custom body has not arrived and it probably won't until tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day that we leave for the big Hood to Coast event so she won't get listed until next week. But here is a little sneak peek. Her bubbles are still wet in these pictures.

She has red "happy hair!"

Tonight my dear husband get's his hair buzzed off...I hope to post pictures on that tonight or in the morning. I won't be blogging while we are gone. I will miss you all!

Full color journal on Jalily/Gabriella

Follow the links for the first four journals on the blog then read the ending.

~First Journal~

~Second Journal~

~Third Journal~

~Fourth Journal~

So when I went back to work on Jalily (now Gabriella) I used an oval porous sponge and my "newborn flush" color all over her head. To make "newborn flush" combine red and brown with a dash of flesh.

Then on her limbs I used a Lt. Flesh and a sponge cloth.

Now I felt ready for final creases and blushing. (All the while I worked on matching her vinyls, I also worked on her lips, nails, finger and toe tips and creases).

With my crease color, I continued to build up her creases and folds. Crease color is burgundy, brown and black.

Then I use red and black on the finger an toe creases and any others that I want extra color. I do this later twice, also touching up on the ends of the fingers and toes.

With the same crease color thinned down with water and a sponge cloth, I now did her first layer of blushing.

Time to tip the nails using cream yellow and white for an ivory color.

Her second blush color was applied the same way using red and brown mixed for a "burnt orange" tone.

The third blush is antique rose and flesh for a light pink color. I use a mop brush to apply it.

Then in all the "thin skin" area's I use a very diluted blue and a mop brush. Mop the color on then pounce it with a wedge.

LDC has a new color called Cyan. I love that color for veins! Sometimes I add blue to it and sometimes not. For this baby, I added more blue than cyan.

After her veining came the yellow "highlight" coat. This is cream yellow mixed to a medium thickness. I always debate if I need to do this step and never regret it when I do. I apply a light layer with a sponge cloth in these areas: Across the bridge of the nose and the upper cheek, down the temples, on the high spots of the ears and above the brow if needed.

From the thumb to the inside elbow and up the inner arm and from the finger to the outside elbow and up the outer arm.

And basically the same on the legs. Then use the yellow for any area's that are too pink/red or where you need a bit more pigment to the "skin". I love that yellow step! It's amazing.

For her painted hair, I used a light brown, pinky flesh and a dark brown in many different layers. And walla...a reborn is painted!

Have fun painting!

"I'm brining home a baby bumble bee"......

"Won't my mommy be so proud of me"......

Kristaleta will be going home soon~sigh~

She's been on layaway and I've enjoyed having her around~I will miss her!

She really won't be taking the bee home. My husband bought that for me on our honeymoon 12 yrs ago. She can take the wings though. I found those at the Doll Tree, aren't they great? The Dollar Tree also has ladybug and butterfly wings and tutu's.

I've got Fawn's hair half-way rooted and will finish her up by a late bedtime tonight~Yippeee!

Jalily, now Gabriella, has 1/2 her hair

And oh my goodness is she adorable!

I am using two different textures of hair and two different needles to create the tight curls on the top of her head. I'll put curls around her back too.

(Sorry Kate, I simply do not have time to do a photo tutorial of rooting over painted hair. T-4 days before we leave for Hood to Coast~and I've still a prototype to finish and list!)

For those of you following how to weight Angelica, I will edit the "Weighting Angelica" post this morning. I finally have her completely done and even took some auction pictures yesterday but you don't get to see them just yet :)

Have a terrific Sunday!

Jalily is all painted!

This little baby just thrills me! She did not turn out anything like I was working towards instead created her own look and personality. That works for me too!

She's got painted hair but I will be rooting over it. (in fact already started on the sides~very light hair)

And I just realized that I did not finish her paint journal. I will do that soon.

Happy Saturday!

Sharing from my collection~Michael

Awe Michael!

This little darling is Bonnie Chyle's "Michael the Little Slugger" from Ashton Drake. He is not reborn, but I've "customized" him with rooted hair, new lashes and a new body.

He constantly keeps this family amused with his darling wardrobe harboring much variety and costume. Here he is ready for the 2010 Hood to Coast relay cheering the Speedy Turtles on. He is always a great cheerleader!

And many times Michael is just as sweet as they come....

But most of the time he keeps us busy watching after him and keeps us in stitches!

You just have to love this baby!

Prototype Fawn~WIP

I am seriously loving this adorable sculpt/baby!

These two pics are her first pics during the WIP. Not too much done at this point but she was just so cute I had to take some pictures!

The pictures below are after many, MANY hours painting yesterday in hopes to get the painting done~but alas, I did not get it done. One more day of painting will have her coloring finished. That will have to wait until Sunday though. It's my weekend now and oh my do we have a million things to do. The next 2 weeks are going to be very wild around here.

The pictures are not great as the sun was in the wrong place in the sky but you can get a general idea.

She just makes me smile!

So what is up with Jalily anyway? Well, she is painted (including painted hair) and I've rooted a little bit of hair on her. I will take a WIP picture or two sometime this weekend. She will be done before I leave for the Portland show~that is my goal.

Have a super Thursday!

Kendall's first Pictures! (Angelica)

Wow! She is done!

I took a few quick shots yesterday. My goal is to have her up on eBay on Friday morning, August 27th. It will be fun taking pictures of this big girl!

Notice the eye color change??

Pretty toes

Things are coming along with the Fawn Prototype~she is such a cutie!

And we are now just 9 days out from Hood to Coast~weee!

Have a great Wednesday!
