NEW VIDEO TUTORIAL! Applying Air-Dry Matte products

Yesterday, as I set out to apply a new matte sealer onto my "Gemma" sculpt, I decided to go ahead and break out the video camera and film the process.

It is asked frequently of me how to apply it so I really hope this helps!

Hmmm....can't seem to just put the video here on the blog today so here is the

Yes, I said "New Matte Sealer"

First, I want to fully clarify that the air dry paints that I use
(LDC, Art and Magic Water Borne and Special Care Nursery)
DO NOT need to be sealed!

The product is a sealer but it is used as a matte to remove shine.

Dianna Effner told me about the product.

It is Plaid FolkArt Matte Sealer and it looks and feels very much like the
FolkArt Glass and Tile Medium.

And they work much the same but I feel that the Matte Sealer does not dry as quickly as you work with it, which is a benefit, and I think it might work a little bit better in the matte department.

The Matte Sealer instructions state to use it OVER your painted project while the Glass and Tile Medium states that it can be used under and over your paint.

Always allow your painted doll kit to cure for at least 48 hours before applying any matte products.
If the product is removing the paint, stop and allow the kit to cure longer.

Enjoy!

Delays and upcoming projects

Well.
That didn't work so well!

I paid extra money to assure that the element for the oven arrived her on Friday, but guess what?
I have not even been notified that it shipped and of course, it did not arrive.
Poor Tavi~just sitting there half baked.

I can hear some of you ask, "Why don't you just use your heat gun??"

Because I have no assurance that I can uniformly cure that paint on all of the pieces.
It just does not set well with me.  I only use my heat gun for spot curing.

So I wait because I want to put out a perfect doll.

In the meantime, I'm going to work on some of the dolls I have started for the show, and maybe even finish them.

And, process some mohair.

On the way to me is a silicone Poppy by Lilianne Breedveld!
She is poured by Claire Taylor.  Claire's silicone is AMAZING!
This baby is a commissioned order and she is going to be a sweet Irish lass.
I do not want to start her until Tavi is all finished since my table is set up right now for Tavi, meaning different paints since Tavi is vinyl.
So, since I need to process some mohair for Poppy, I might as well process some requested colors too.

:)

It is all going to be just fine and will work out just fine.

"All things work for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose."
I stand by that and no longer get all upset when things do not conform to MY time frame.

Have a wonderful day!

Sharing my Collection Friday~GET THAT RABBIT!

These two never cease to delight me!

They are CONSTANTLY into trouble though!
Today, they are after a rabbit!

Look at the long-suffering look on that rabbit's face.
You can just hear him sigh and say, "Oh no, here we go AGAIN!!"

I love my dollies so much!

Gemma is so sweet with hair!

I wasn't sure which way she would end up.
I thought I would try something super fancy but I just wasn't feeling it when I began working on her head shape.

I am pleased with her hair and it is much better in person than pictures show.

She does look like a girl to me now  :)

I will put some air dry matte varnish on her limbs and of course root lashes for her and gloss the areas that need it.

She's going to be such a sweetheart!

Gimme a Gemma!

This baby was just so fun to work on!
She reminds me of my third grandson  :)

I almost thought she looked a bit boyish when I got her paint all done but I think she is still all girl.

Today she will grow some painted hair.

I love her lips!

My oven part is ordered and will be here on Friday so I'll get back to Tavi on Sunday.
Marita is so kind and understanding of my situation.

Hugs for the day!

When life hands you lemons....

Make a Gemma!

Yesterday, as I returned to the nursery to work on Tavi, I noticed that his paint just did not seem right.

Upon touching it, I realized that it was not cure from the last bake on Thursday.

Odd.

I went to the kitchen to turn the oven on and waited from the nursery, doing this and that, until I heard the pre-heat beeper go off.

Upon opening the door, I felt NO heat.  My oven was NOT working!

I only had a little bit more Genesis work to do on Tavi before I switched to do the finishing  touches with air dry paints.  Harrumph!

Of course, that was on a Sunday so I could not do anything about the dead oven.

And I think it is just the bottom element so hopefully it will be back up and running soon.

I bought the Gemma kit a couple of months ago when the order that I placed with Bountiful Baby did not meet the minimum order requirements.  I have loved Gemma since the sculpt came out so I added her to my cart and have been dying to reborn her!

Since I have just a small window of opportunity before the oven is back up running, I decided to make a Simple Treasures baby out of her.  I should be able to finish up her paint today and she might just have painted hair too.

She is intended to go to the Sauder Village show with me.
(The website is still not updated but hopefully soon it will be.  I have some exciting news to share about that show!)

I am loving this little girl!

So, there you go.
When life hands you lemons,
