It was a bit difficult getting the work done but through chatting with a friend last night, I now know what to do with my computer to fix the problems I was having.  It's time for an operating systems update!

I'm pretty excited to find this information out and it won't cost very much at all.  I was sure worried I would have to spend a thousand dollars to get it back up to speed (and after ordering the DVD sets that sure made me panic!) but it will be less than $30.  I am very thankful for that!

It is with such great delight that I announce that as of last Thursday, May 10, 2012 the 

Life-Like Reborning Course 

DVD set is IN PRODUCTION!

It will take 10-12 days for complete production and the stock should arrive to the nursery around May 31st.

I will be working on pre-sale pages today but so far, things are not going so well.  Seems like none of my websites want to co-operate, but I will push through it all.

I was delighted to have a few moments to quickly change Brittany and snap a few shots.

Of course I had to take a few of her in the outfit she arrived in  :)

I think I did a pretty good job on her way back in 2008!

New baby painted!

Be still my heart! 

I've had this Celebration of Life Emily (2004/Ashton Drake/Linda Webb) for well over a year now and decided to paint here while I waited for the prototypes to arrive.  I do have a mission...I am taking Evon Nather's painted hair class at the Down East Doll Show so I needed a head to paint while in the class.  She is the perfect candidate for painted hair since her head is ROCK hard.  There is absolutely NO give in her head at all, or in her eye sockets!  Putting her eyes in is very hard work.   She appears to be one of those that have the inner hard shell between the silicone/vinyl layers.  

Ah yes, silicone/vinyl.  How do you paint that stuff?  

In the past, the best paint of choice for silicone/vinyl was Genesis Heat Set Paints. 

That creates a problem for silicone/vinyl dolls as in the past, many have developed the "bumpy head syndrome".  I believe it is caused by both the repetitive heating of the vinyl and the rooting.  

But nothing really sticks to the silicone/vinyl, so what is one to do?  

In 2009, I did an experiment with a silicone/vinyl Ashton Drake/Linda Webb Emily head on Alex limbs.  I first coated the doll with Genesis Matte Varnish and then painted her with LDC air dry paints...yes this is where I first realized this can be done and have created almost all of my dolls since using this technique.  

I love the more natural colors of the LDC paints and, with that Emily doll, I won the 2009 Tiny Treasures Reborn of the year award, the best rooting award and the People's Choice award.  

This technique turns out amazing on these dolls and I am so thrilled with the new one.  I've not named her yet.  She painted up so very well~she was a real pleasure to work on (except for inserting eyes!!!).

 I have added textured hair and brow/facial hair stokes using the Genesis Matte Varnish will look amazing under the painted hair:

I will give this little girl some delicate rooted lashes and get her glossing details done.  She might be my carry-on baby on my flight to NC. 

Tomorrow starts my weekend days off to which we are going to the city for shopping, but I'll pop in on Friday to share a little more of Brittany.  :)

This and that: WIP reports, Brittany story

It was requested that I tell the re-adoption story of Brittany.  

When the "Ella Rose" kit by Vikki Ebbling came out, one of my regular collectors/customers/turned good friends really liked the kit and bought one in hopes to have it reborn for her.  Then she changed her mind and offered the kit for sale, to which I bought. 

I reborned Brittany and hesitantly placed her on eBay (hesitantly because I adored her!).  That same collector/friend won her auction!  LOL  She had fallen all over again for the kit and for Brittany.   We had a good laugh over that!

However, as much as she thought she was gorgeous, she never fully bonded with Brittany.  She told me this when I visited her (and Brittany) in November of 2010, which put a little seed in my heart that I might be able to get her back someday.  

MY guess for the lack of bonding would be her open mouth as this customer does not really care for dolls with open mouths.  My customer/friend is also thinning down her collection and adopting out many of her bigger babies to which Brittany is. 

I recently offered her a trade:  A custom reborn for Brittany.  She was thinking about it and I was thinking about it but finally decided that it would be too long before I could create a custom reborn for her and I was longing for Brittany so I offered to buy her and she accepted!  Yay!!

So even though Brittany was gone for 4 years, it was if she were never gone simply because she resided at my good friends home and in her heart.  It's like sending your real children to the best babysitter!

Oh and Becky...yes, PINK????  You LIKE the pink Brittany is in??  ROFL!  Her previous Auntie purchased that outfit just for her while she waited for her arrival back in 2008.  It is a super sweet set and so perfect for Brittany.
Ahh...I love it when I can mess up my friends thinking (Becky has been a work in progress regarding her dislike of pink!  LOL).

Okay, so what am I working on now?

Well, first, I am getting close to having the Riley Schenk (now Shamika) head rooted:

I'm using kid hair from a goat named Kaltapa.  This kid hair is thicker than all my other kid hair~it's more like Slumberland's kid hair and perfect for Shamika.

I adore this sculpt!!  She is for the Down East Doll Show.

I was going to share the newest baby that I am working on while I wait for the 2 prototypes from the Netherlands but my picture loader does not want to work now.  Weird.
I guess I'll have to show you tomorrow  :)

First adoption of this kind

You all gave some excellent guesses as to what type of adoption that I recently made!

The adoption is a typical reborn doll.  Huh?  I've adopted lot's of reborn dolls, right?  

Yes, I have.  But this is the first time I have ever adopted back one of my own reborn dolls!

Please meet Brittany!

Here are a few of her auction pictures from 2008 when I "birthed" her:

 And here are two really quick pictures taken in the nursery after she arrived.  I didn't even turn on the lights as I was in the middle of working with Matthew's pictures and auction when she arrived. 

I have loved this baby ever since she left my nursery in 2008 and am delighted that I had the opportunity to bring her back home.  

She is the "Ella Rose" sculpt by Vikki Ebbling.  

Her straight legs add so much to her already charming personality.

I can't wait to have more time for dress up and pictures!  

I was going through my baby clothes the other day trying to find something to put on Lisa.  Everything I looked at I had the thought "Oh, that would look so adorable on Brittany!"  

LOL...I am totally hopeless.

Tomorrow I can't wait to share the new one I am working on!  

It's a silicone/vinyl doll and I'm using LDC paints.  Unreal, right??

Matthew prototype finished and listed

I am finding it nearly impossible these days to take WIP pictures of hair rooting.  I think it might be because I finish my sessions late at night, right before bed to where I am too tired to set up lights etc and in the morning, well, it is morning and there is just so much in front of me that needs done.  So...most of the times you get to see the baby with his/her hair when it's all done.

And Matthew Prototype #2 is done!

And now for more wonderful news...

My new adoption arrived home yesterday!  I will share pictures tomorrow but are there any last guesses? 

And even more great news:

I made a decision on the prototypes that are coming from the Netherlands.  I AM going to do both of them, which puts aside any other kits I was going to make for the Down East Doll Show but, I will be taking both babies to the show and have permission to sell them at the show.  

So while I wait for them to arrive, I am going to be painting an Ashton Drake baby that I will use in Evon Nather's painted hair class at the Down East Doll Show.  I am very excited to take this class with her!
